Uric acid is a normal waste product formed when the body breaks down purines — substances found naturally in your cells and in many foods.
This test measures the concentration of uric acid in your blood (and/or urine) to evaluate how well your body is producing and eliminating urate. High levels may indicate conditions such as gout, kidney stones, or impaired renal function, while also being useful in monitoring rapid cell-turnover states (e.g., during chemotherapy) or purine-rich diets.
