This test detects antibodies directed against the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor (also called TRAb or TSHR-Ab), which are central to the development of Graves' Disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism).
It is useful for:
- Diagnosing Graves’ Disease in patients with hyperthyroidism or goiter and ambiguous thyroid scans.
- Evaluating a pregnant woman’s risk of transmitting autoimmune thyroid disease to the fetus (neonatal thyrotoxicosis).
- Assessing risk of relapse following treatment for Graves’ disease.
