TSH is a hormone released by the anterior pituitary gland that regulates how much thyroid hormone your thyroid gland (T3 and T4) produces—essentially acting as the “thermostat” for your metabolism.
A high TSH typically indicates the thyroid is under-active (hypothyroidism), while a low TSH often suggests the thyroid is over-active (hyperthyroidism) or there is pituitary dysfunction.
