Thyroglobulin Antibody - TGAB

TgAb measures antibodies directed against thyroglobulin, a protein produced by the thyroid gland that helps generate thyroid hormones. These antibodies are often present in autoimmune thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease, and can interfere with thyroglobulin testing used for follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer.

This test is used as an adjunct to thyroid evaluations and cancer surveillance:

• A positive TgAb result may indicate autoimmune thyroiditis or, in patients treated for thyroid cancer, residual or recurrent disease.
• A negative result does not exclude thyroid disease; antibody levels only form part of the overall picture.
