Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a genetically influenced lipid particle that plays a key role in cardiovascular and atherosclerotic disease risk. Elevated levels are associated with an increased likelihood of heart attack, stroke, and premature heart disease, even when other cholesterol markers are normal.
