Gastrin is a hormone secreted by the stomach that stimulates gastric acid production and regulates digestive motility. Abnormally elevated levels may indicate gastric or duodenal ulcers, gastrinomas (Zollinger–Ellison syndrome), or chronic PPI use.
This test measures the circulating gastrin concentration in blood to assist in the evaluation of gastric acidity disorders, gastrin-secreting tumors, or unexplained gastric symptoms.
