Cortisol is a hormone released by the adrenal glands that helps regulate stress response, metabolism, and immune function. Abnormally high or low levels may indicate adrenal dysfunction, such as Cushing’s syndrome or Addison’s disease, or reflect chronic stress and fatigue.
This test measures total cortisol levels in the blood, typically collected in the morning when cortisol peaks, to evaluate adrenal activity and hormone balance.
